Five Friday Facts

Here are five fun Friday facts…about the Royal Wedding (of course, since what else are people talking about today!?!?). I’m not exactly sure how factual these facts are…but they’re fun. Oh and yes, they’re all media related. I’m in advertising okay? This stuff is interesting to me.

1.       According to the “internets,” the Royal Wedding had 1.6 million live streaming video views – this made it the biggest event to be watched on the web! It beat out Michael Jackson’s funeral, the last World Cup, and even President Obama’s inauguration.

2.       The LA Times reported that there were 684,399 Facebook status updates about the wedding this morning in the UK (that would be a crazy 47 mentions per second!).

3.       There were over 8,500 journalists covering the event in London – so says The Telegraph.

4.       Twitter reported that there were more than 300 tweets per second during the actual wedding.

5.       The “requests per second” for Royal Wedding stories on Yahoo beat out the previous records set by the Japan earthquake (40,000 per second today versus the old record of 33,000 per second).

Pretty cool stuff huh? Were you one of the people up at 4am watching the wedding? And facebooking/tweeting while you did it? I definitely…was not. But it’s been fun hearing about it all day!

Happy Friday!
