{BabyT} Bumpdate: 8-13 Weeks

We found out about this pregnancy a little later than the last one (about 8 weeks, compared to right at 5 weeks with Arden)  - between that plus having a 14 month old to run around after, I have taken exactly 1 bump picture so far & realized I need to get going if I'm planning to document my pregnancy again!

I'm going to try to recap my (short) time during first trimester & then do a different post about second trimester up to now.

I went in for my first appointment about 2-3 weeks after getting a positive pregnancy test. I wasn't totally sure how far along I was at the point, but was estimating around 8-9 weeks (because I took a test when I started feeling really sick, and last pregnancy that had happened around 6 weeks). It was quite a shock when the sonographer told me I was actually closer to 11 weeks! Last time when we saw Arden for the first time, she was just a tiny little peanut/jelly bean blob. This time the baby looked like a real baby and was waving arms and legs around. It surprised us!

All of a sudden I only had about 2-3 weeks left of the first trimester! It went by pretty fast and before we knew it we were starting to share our fun news with family and friends. We got some really cute pictures for our pregnancy announcement of Arden in an adorable Big Sister shirt that I found on Etsy.

Like last time, the first trimester was a little bit rough for me. I was sick on and off all day and started taking Diclegis (prescribed by my doc) to try to help with the nausea. For the first few weeks I was also taking progesterone supplements after the doc discovered that my levels were a bit on the low end. Those two things combined knocked me out at night and I started needed to go to bed between 8-9pm. I'm still going to bed really early these days. That's been one major difference between this pregnancy & the last one - I'm so much more tired!

The morning sickness is finally starting to get better - I usually only feel sick about once or twice a day now (I'm 16 weeks). This definitely lasted longer than it did with Arden.

Weight gain has been about the same as last time - I gained 2.7 lbs. in the first trimester with Arden, and this time only 2.1 lbs. The biggest difference here is that I actually lost about 3.4 lbs in the first trimester last time, while this time my weight pretty much stayed the same. I think I was a little more conscious of what I was eating during the first trimester last time - I tried a bit harder to make sure I wasn't eating a ton of junk food. This time I literally ate anything that sounded appealing - toast, rice, mac & cheese, lots of candy, tons of salty foods, etc. Poor Taylor had to deal with meals that went from super healthy pre-pregnancy (quinoa! salads! fish!) to downright sad for the past few weeks (plain pasta, plain fried rice, basic grilled cheese - no veggies, no proteins!).

One funny difference about this pregnancy is that my jeans definitely started getting tighter sooner! I think around 12-13 weeks I gave in and pulled out maternity yoga pants for hanging out around the house.
