{BabyT} Bumpdate: 30 Weeks

30 Weeks

I feel 30 weeks pregnant.
It's' not a bad thing per se, but I definitely feel pregnant.
I don't think I felt quite this pregnant with Arden at 30 weeks.
I didn't really look quite as pregnant either.
I'm still loving every minute though!

This has been a busy week.

We had Arden's first Valentine's Day dance at school,
As well as a party in her class.

Gram visited us for the weekend!
Arden got to go on plenty of trips to the park...
And Taylor and I got to spend most of the weekend working on refinishing a dresser.
But we also snuck in a date night to the movies.

I hit my 4-year anniversary with my company, or as we like to call it,
my Grouperversary.
Taylor always gets me flowers to mark the occasion:

We had a 30 week baby appointment.
And I had my first chiropractic visits to Cafe of Life.
More on these in the baby/momma sections.

But back to refinishing the dresser.
Hard, hard work.
I forgot to take a before picture, but imagine pretty light wood,
all shiny (aka coated with some kind of veneer).

The work really started Friday
{as most weekend projects usually do}

Taylor cleaned the dresser
& then sanded down all the surfaces.
Saturday we gave every surface a first coat with thick primer.
I learned that our primer was oil-based after I had my entire hand wrapped around a paintbrush in the sink, starting to clean it off.
Oil-based primer does not come off paintbrushes with just water.
Nor does it come off your hands with just water.
About 20 minutes of scrubbing with Dawn soap later, my hands were raw but mostly clean.
We left the stupid paintbrushes in a cup of water until we were able to get to Home Depot to buy some paint thinner (or whatever it is that helps clean oil-based primer/paint).

After the primer was on, Taylor sanded down every surface again.
And then cleaned every surface.
Then we put on the first coat of white paint.

We had every intention of getting on a second coat, but we went to the movies instead.
Star Wars - Rogue One was great.
Yes, we did go see that even though it was released almost 2 months ago.

Sunday morning I sanded everything down.
Then we cleaned all the surfaces.
And then we finally got a second coat of paint on.

Are you noticing the trend that is refinishing wood furniture?
Sand-Clean-Paint

At this point we were mostly over it so we called it done.

We're giving the paint a full week to really dry, and then we'll finish it off with a shiny top coat.

Taylor researched how to do every single step...
...I was just the labor.
Haha kidding.
I was the pregnant person sitting in the middle of the garage who couldn't get up without help.
Taylor was sweet & kept bringing me new pieces to paint.

All in all, I'm super happy with how it turned out.
Refinishing furniture is hard work.
Can't wait to see how it looks in Arden's new room soon!

Baby Update

This week babyT has been moving around like crazy this week.
And apparently it was a really good thing because at my 30-week appointment, my OB said he was definitely head down, woohoo!
32 weeks is the deciding appointment if a baby is officially breech or not (because at that point they're pretty big & have a harder time turning around), so we do still need to see how things are at the next appointment.
But for now I'm just happy that he is able to be head-down & nothing is keeping him from doing that.

My bp was normal at 118/68.
BabyT's heartbeat was in the normal range of 130 bpm.

My appointment actually ended up being in two parts this time because when I arrived, my OB was at the hospital delivering another baby.
The nurses did their thing and took their measurements, and then I waited for a little bit until they decided they had to reschedule all their morning appoints.
I ended up seeing my OB that same afternoon.
The waiting time lended to a bunch of in-waiting-room selfies.

Momma Update

Current weight gain: 18.3 lbs.
More or less flat from last week.

I had my first chiropractic appointment this week & it was amazing!
The practice is set up a little differently than a regular doctors office.
The words hippie and granola are probably accurate descriptors.
The office is very open and airy & they have essential oils going.
Most of the doctors walk around barefoot.
They have a play area & encourage whole families to come in for adjustments.
They have every patient go through an orientation before their first appointment.
The first appointment is at a specific time, but after that they use an open system where you can just swing by (during certain hours) when it's convenient for you.

I loved it.

The orientation was about an hour long, and the doctor (and owner) walked us through his story - how he and his wife got into chiropractics and how their office (and family) has grown over the years. My orientation was for pregnant mommas (there were 4 of us) so he focused a lot on how the spine/hips/pelvis/etc. can all affect how you feel during pregnancy & labor.

I fall into this weird category of being a little bit hippie in life, but not over the top:
We try to eat pretty well the majority of the time and cook at home, but we do still eat out (and not so well sometimes!).
We try to avoid overly processed foods.
We own a set of glass food storage containers, but we still use plastic occasionally.
I love essential oils, but I still have a full medicine cabinet.
I want to try (again) for an unmedicated birth, but I want to do so in the hospital.

Cafe of Life falls right into the happy middle for me.
They have some very awesome philosophies & natural ways of doing things.
I'm super exciting to be seeing them.
Last pregnancy I set up an appointment with them around 40 weeks, hoping that maybe an adjustment could help Arden along.
I ended up going into labor before my appointment!
This time I was determined to get in early.
I had intended to start going before our trip to the UK, but life happened.

Anyway, after the orientation, I went back for my next appointment & the doctor assessed my back.
I've mentioned it before, but this pregnancy I've just felt generally sort of not super comfortable.
It's hard to explain, and hard to pinpoint any one problem.
Mostly around halfway through my pregnancy I noticed that I just couldn't quite stretch out my back like I used to be able to....which has led me to feel kind of stiff, and a little like my range of motion is limited.
It's been frustrating because I'm doing pilates every morning, and it feels great, but it also feels like I just can't quite stretch out my back and hips like I usually can.

The doctor used a bunch of different tools - something that tapped fast & slow up my spine, something that vibrated near my hips, and then he adjusted the middle of my back & neck.

When I stood up I felt about 2 inches taller and so much lighter.
It was amazing!
I'm a fan.
