As I mentioned before, the first trimester went by pretty quickly for me this time - and to be honest, I was pretty thankful for that! I had morning sickness on and off all day for weeks, and have been way, way more exhausted this time around.
There were a handful of things I was especially grateful for that helped me through - here are my favorites:
1. Storq. Oh my goodness I love this brand. I heard about them while I was pregnant for Arden, and tried out one of their white tanks - I ended up wearing it all.the.time (and even took all of my weekly maternity pictures in it!). It was SO soft, stretchy, and comfortable - and it worked literally from day 1 all the way until the end of my pregnancy. I wore it totally out. So this time, pretty quickly after I found out I was pregnant again, I splurged and ordered another one (black this time). Plus a pair of leggings. They are both definitely splurge items & a bit more than I like to spend on maternity clothing, but I knew how much I loved the top last time so I (already) feel like it was totally worth it.
2. Morning Wellness Tea. Wish I had found this a little sooner! Ginger, spearmint, chamomile, orange, lemon and peppermint made this tea perfect for sipping in the mornings when I just couldn't quite get my stomach to settle. Confession: I hate ginger and chamomile - but they're both always recommended as ingredients to help combat nausea. This tea was nice because the other flavors helped mask the ginger & chamomile.
3. The Bump App. Like last time, I liked reading the weekly baby updates on this app. A lot were familiar, but it was fun getting a weekly refresher on how this baby has been growing!
4. Prenatal Vitamins. This brand is my go-to. I actually still had a bottle leftover from last pregnancy/nursing so I started taking them the day I found out I was pregnant again. These have been pretty easy on my stomach and are a great all-in-one prenatal.
5. Peanut butter toast. Oh man. I ate a LOT of this during my first trimester this time. It was just about the only food I could stomach early in the morning at work. I kept a full loaf of bread and a full jar of PB in my desk. In fact, I ate so much of it that now I can't bring myself to eat it anymore! First trimester was hard for me with Arden as well - at least this time I knew that I'd feel better if I could keep my stomach full, so I tried to eat small meals pretty often. Unfortunately most of the time all I could bring myself to eat was pretty carb-y foods like toast and pasta. I also had a major craving for asian food (extra soy sauce!) - and dumplings.
6. Sour Patch Kids. Specifically the extreme kind! It's funny, like with Arden, I had major cravings for sour foods during my first trimester. I normally try to limit my candy intake, but I have to admit that I ate a handful of these guys just about every day for 2-3 weeks. It got to the point that my co-workers were bringing me bags of them because they knew how much I liked them (that's probably when you know you have a problem, ha!).
7. Yoga pants. A sweet friend got me a pair of these yoga pants when I was pregnant with Arden and they were one of the first things I pulled out from my maternity clothes bin. The band on my non-maternity yoga pants got tight pretty quickly and so these were perfect. I can keep the band folded down for now, but they've been perfect for going on walks, and I even wore them on a flight to California last weekend.
8. Dallas Library. A month or so before I found out I was pregnant, I discovered our local library's e-book Kindle collection & since then I've been downloading and borrowing books left and right. For probably a good 3-4 weeks of first the trimester I was so exhausted that I would get into bed and read for an hour while Arden napped every single afternoon. Last pregnancy I watched my way through Gilmore Girls while sitting on the sofa after work, but this time around I've been happy to work my way through dozens of books.
So there you go, a handful of things that were lifesavers that I can't look at anymore (hello, sourpatch kids), and a handful of things that were amazing & I'm still using as I'm into the second trimester!
