Doesn't It Seem Like Just Yesterday?

The answer to that is yes.
Jamie, me, Allie, & Anna on graduation day...May 2nd 2009
I'm having such a hard time believing that it's been two years since that day we walked across that stage and became Pepperdine graduates. Two years?!? I think time is going a little too fast for me. Can someone slow it down?

Have we really had two years without classes to go to, papers to write, or exams to take? (Okay...well I guess this doesn't reallllly apply to all of us since some of our super ambitious friends (like Anna) jumped right back into grad school!)

Have we really spent two years in the "working-world" already? That's crazy.

Can I still say "I just graduated from Pepperdine" ???

It's bittersweet to see all the Facebook status updates today as graduation is getting ready to start in Malibu. I would go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Jamie, Allie, & Anna - I miss you girls! I'm so glad for all the fun we got to have together during our four years at Pepperdine!

Congrats to the Pepperdine class of 2011!

Yep, that would be the latest rockin' Pepperdine DFW Waves Chapter event that went down this weekend.

It was every bit as awesome as it sounds! Here are a few pictures of the event:

My awesome VP of Programming (aka our event planner), Jubilee (left) and her roommate Brittany

Me and Fred (our VP of Membership Development)

Angela and Justin (Justin is our VP of Volunteer Services)

Lee, Fred, and Chad - Chad would be the general manager at D'Vine Wine...awesome guy who helped us coordinate our event!

Bliss

Bliss is getting to go back to Pepperdine for a (super fun incredible amazing) weekend

Bliss is getting to walk around campus with my hubby for the first time since we left almost 2 years ago and take tons of pictures

Bliss is being surrounded by stunningly gorgeous palm trees

Bliss is standing on campus and being reminded of the incredible breath-taking views. I know God's work is everywhere but man oh man is it evident in Malibu!

Bliss is getting to visit the chapel where we got married and remember our wedding day (and get super excited for our friends, Emily & Ky, who are getting married in the same chapel this summer!)

Bliss is getting to spend the weekend going to awesome meetings with alumni chapter leaders across the country and hear dozens of great ideas and best practices

Bliss is getting to make new friends, meet other chapter presidents, and hang out with our awesome coordinator Sandra (left next to me)

Bliss is getting to be a Pepperdine alum and still be actively involved with my school

Bliss is getting to see, hear, smell, and touch the ocean!

Bliss is getting to see all the changes Pepperdine has made to the campus in the past year and half (and getting to meet George!)

Bliss is going back to Rosenthal winery in Malibu where Taylor took me the day he proposed

Our weekend in Malibu at Pepperdine was...blissful! What an amazing weekend! We got to see old friends: Jamie (one of my roomies for two years at Pepperdine and bridesmaid at our wedding), and Scott (Taylor's old roomie and good friend). We got to visit lots of favorite restaurants and eateries: dinner at Father's Office, lunch at Howdy's, breakfast at Lilly's (most amazing breakfast burritos in the world), and a trip (or two) to Coffee Bean. We got to walk around campus, take lots of pictures, and reminisce about when we lived in LA. Of course, the main part of the weekend for me was being at the Pepperdine Alumni Leadership Conference, which was incredible (I'm the DFW Chapter president, if there's anyone out there who didn't know). Chapter leaders from all around the country come together for a weekend of sharing ideas, learning new tips on how to make our chapters better, getting to connect with the Pepperdine staff in Malibu, and a lot of general getting to know each other. It was such an inspiring conference - I came home with a looong list of exciting new ideas for our chapter and have already been getting a few of them rolling.

It was an awesome weekend and made me realize a few things:

  1. I miss the ocean
  2. I miss palm trees
  3. I miss the views from campus
  4. I took numbers 1-3 for granted while I was at Pepperdine
  5. I love Pepperdine and being involved with our alumni chapter
  6. I can't wait to go back to Malibu in June!

Where'd Ya Go, February?

I can hardly believe that tomorrow we'll be saying hello to March. Where the heck does the time go? And why does it go by so darn fast? I really like the month of February, but it always goes by so quickly!

One part of me is just itching to draw out a long blog post (or two, or three!) since I've been so behind on updating lately...but unfortunately...another part of me (the responsible part that has to not only acknowledge but actually respond to my alarm clock in the morning) is reminding me that it's already well past my bedtime so a picture update will have to suffice for tonight!

First up...Valentine's Day! I was surprised at work with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from my sweet husband. See the cute note that came with them? Loved it! The two things he told the florist were pink & roses and it just doesn't get much better than that. Pink and roses are two of my most favorite things ever. So I took picture...from every angle...all day long! One of my coworkers even started making fun of me because every time she walked by my desk I had my camera out! It was worth it though...each side of the arrangement looked so different!

Little did I know that the flowers were just the beginning. Taylor (who had the day off from work) texted me around 430pm and told me that he would be waiting in the lobby of my office building when I was done with work. My office building rocks...it's in one of three Hilton towers, which means that yes, there is a hotel (and restaurant and bar) just a few steps away from my office. When I finished for the day and made it downstairs, Taylor announced surprise number two: for Valentine's Day he was going to take me shopping for a head-to-toe new work outfit. Now this might not sound exciting to some, but I was beyond thrilled. For the past few months I've just been longing for new, tailored, work clothes! We went over to the Galleria and after quite a few stops I had a brand new complete work outfit! Then my sneaky husband casually asks what I want to do for dinner. Quite happy with how the day had panned out, I say that I'm up for anything! He then pulls out a hotel keycard and quite smoothly says: "how about room service?" (which totally cracked me up!). We headed to our room at the Hilton (where of course Taylor had candles set up on every surface and a bottle of champagne chilling in a bucket) and ordered yummy room service for dinner. Sorry for the low quality pics...I just had to make an attempt to document! It was a perfect (and yes, crazy over the top!) Valentine's Day. Taylor is great at surprises! Oh and the next morning, my commute to work was a grand total of 5 minutes...just across the lobby and up the elevator!

The next weekend I got to hang out with a bunch of Pepperdiners at our February alumni event: volunteering at the CitySquare Thrift Store in downtown Dallas. CitySquare used to be known as Dallas Central Ministries and is an organization that helps fight poverty in Dallas. They have a Thrift Store, Food Bank and help people find housing. If you're interested in volunteering (or just want to donate food or clothes), let me know! Our awesome group of volunteers cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, and organized clothing & furniture for almost four hours in the morning, and then we all drove over to the Taco Joint for lunch.

Man, even picture-blogging is taking longer than I thought it would! This is going to have to be a to-be-continued post! Up next...a weekend in Malibu for a Pepperdine Leadership Conference...stay tuned!
